The 18 MB email preset is a conservative starting point, not a universal provider limit. Email systems can count message encoding, other attachments and the message body. Check both your sending provider and your recipient's limit before choosing a size.
For a presentation recording, prioritize readable text over motion. Choose a higher resolution when the budget allows, or shorten the recording first. Very small targets may make screen text difficult to read.
SmallerKit does not connect to your inbox or send messages. Download the result and attach it yourself. For a recipient with uncertain video support, prefer H.264 MP4 when your browser offers it; otherwise consider sharing a file link through your own trusted service.
Everything you should know before
making something smaller.
No. Receiving servers, account policies, encoding overhead and other attachments affect delivery. The 18 MB preset leaves some headroom, but you should adjust it for the limits of both mail providers.
No video data is uploaded by this app. The browser reads the file locally and encodes the result on your device. There are no analytics scripts, accounts or remote processing services in this version. Your web host can still log ordinary page requests.
Input depends on what your browser can play. MP4, MOV and WebM are common containers, but the codec inside matters. For output, SmallerKit checks for H.264 MP4 support first and otherwise offers WebM. It never disguises one format with another extension.
This version records at playback speed, so allow roughly the length of the clip for each attempt, plus preparation. It may retry twice if the first file is over target. Keep this tab visible and your device awake; switching away stops the attempt to avoid an incomplete result.
This build has no payment system, signup or watermark. For predictable memory use, it accepts one video at a time, up to 250 MB and 10 minutes. Browser resources still vary; a file within those limits can fail on a low-memory device.
Not exactly. Re-encoding is lossy and can change resolution, frame rate, colors or audio. This version targets standard SDR clips, not HDR mastering. Preview the result and retain your original. Captions, chapters and extra audio tracks are not preserved.
